User account In a multi-user environment user accounts are a tried and tested means to assign

individual rights to systems and their resources. Generally, the system administrator

creates the user accounts. A user account includes information on the user, e.g.

password, rights, permissions and shared folders.

In many multi-user operating systems user groups can be set up that summarise

several user accounts (or members). You can thus set permissions for the group that

apply to each individual group member.

In a multi-user installation environment several users assigned to a user group can

access the database at the same time. There is no need to assign the users

individually.

User profile Describes a data record of an authorised user that is managed by the computer. A user

profile is required for security reasons and can include information on the user's access

rights, e.g. mailbox location, terminal. See also User account.
