3.2.4 File and printer sharing

Follow these steps to check whether file and printer sharing is enabled:

3.2.5 Security settings for SQL Server 2005 Express

Follow these steps to set the local security policies for Windows XP:

1 Select "start > Control Panel".

2 Click on "Network and Internet Connections".

3 Click on "Network Connections".

4 Right-click on your network entry, e.g. "(LAN) Local Area Connection" to open

the shortcut menu.

5 Select "Properties" to open the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialogue box.

6 Ensure that "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is selected.

7 Close the dialogue box.

Important

SQL Server 2005 Express installation will fail if either of the following local

security policies has been set to "Do not allow installation":

• Windows XP: "Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior".

• Windows 2000: "Unsigned non-driver installation behavior".

If "Do not allow installation" is selected, you must change this to "Silently

succeed" before installing SQL Server 2005 Express. You can reset the policy

setting after installation is complete.

"Do not allow installation" is not the default setting for these security policies.

1 Select "[start] > Control Panel > Administrative Tools".

2 Double-click on "Local Security Policy" to open the "Local Security Settings"

dialogue box.

3 Click on "Local Policies > Security Options".

4 Check that the following options are set to "Silently Succeed" , in the right pane

before you install SQL Server 2005 Express:

– Windows XP and Windows 2003 (server): "Devices: Unsigned driver

installation behavior". Unsigned driver installation behavior“).

– Windows 2000: "Unsigned non-driver installation behavior".
